The squad monitored compliance at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, Lagos, the Domestic Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, and several other strategic points.
4. All Progressives Congress, APC, state governors on Saturday concluded a two-day strategic meeting in Lagos with an expression of their support for President Bola Tinubu’s latest security measures. Specifically, they resolved to “strengthen community security, intelligence gathering and support for victims of violence.”
5. Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele, has condemned reports alleging that he is among those financing terrorism in the country. Emefiele, in a statement, described the claim as fake, saying it was fabricated to tarnish his name.
6. The Nigerian Army has suspended all statutory and voluntary retirements for certain categories of officers following the nationwide security emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu. An internal memo dated December 3 and signed by Maj. Gen. E. I. Okoro on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff stated that the suspension of retirements was to retain manpower, experience, and operational capacity as the Armed Forces expand in response to rising insecurity.
7. Edo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the assailants responsible for the killing of a police inspector during a routine stop-and-search operation. In a statement on Friday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, said all available intelligence and operational resources have been deployed to apprehend the perpetrators.
8. Tragedies struck in three local government areas of Kano State, resulting in the deaths of at least five people, including a 10-year-old girl. The first incident occurred in Badume Kanawa Village in Bichi Local Government Area, where three people lost their lives while attempting to re-dig a well. Another tragedy occurred in Danbatta Local Government Area, where a boy of about 10 years old, Hassan Iliyasu Haruna, fell into a well and died.
9. Sokoto State Police Command has arrested suspected bandit financiers and motorcycle thieves in two coordinated operations carried out on Wednesday across Sokoto and neighbouring Zamfara State. According to a statement released on Saturday the command’s spokesman, Ahmed Rufai, three men were apprehended in Tangaza Local Government Area for allegedly funding a notorious bandit group by helping them sell rustled cattle.
10. Cross River government has directed all civil and public servants in the state to proceed on a 20-day leave for them to participate fully in the forthcoming Christmas and new year festivities. This is contained in a circular with Ref: GO/HOS/4/Vol.II1/277 and signed by the Head of Service of the state, Mr Orok Okon.
