Rivers govt inaugurates committee for 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day

The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to oversee the organization of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the state.

The committee was formally inaugurated on Thursday in Port Harcourt by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba.

According to a statement issued by the Head of the Information and Public Relations Unit in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Juliana Masi, Dr. Anabraba, who also serves as Chairman of the Committee, expressed the state government’s profound appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who gave their lives in defense of the nation’s peace and unity.

He said, “These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated.

“The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice.”

He further acknowledged the efforts of all security agencies in the state, underscoring the significance of the annual commemoration in recognizing their vital contributions to national security and the preservation of Nigeria’s sovereignty.

Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed nationwide on January 15, is dedicated to honouring Nigeria’s fallen soldiers and celebrating the courage and service of the nation’s veterans.
