“Aunty Lovina” taps from the street vibe that the mainstream has had an influx of in the past couple of years. For one, it’s a shift from the seemingly alternative elements he’s been trying to infuse with his largely afro style for a while now.

“Aunty Lovina” with its uptempo instrumental, is reminiscent of the tunes that rocked the streets in and around 2018.

We all know the industry has moved on from sounds like that, and is now interested in laid-back vibes. But if there’s anyone that can make it work, it would be Patoranking.

The beat is perfect for what it’s for. Ycee and Pato take turns to simp for a hesitant girl, Lovina, in the club thereabouts.

Pato rapped on the hook and didn’t even sing any melody that could distract the flows Yceewas bringing on the verses. Ycee spit some fire, sure. Basic stuff, no lyrical exceptionality here, just normal flows in Pidgin and English.

The highlight of the lyrics is probably where Ycee referenced his 2018 hit with DJ Consequence, “Loud Inna Benz.”

With the scarcity of bangers in the industry currently, “Aunty Lovina” has an edge and could easily become a new street anthem.
